Do you remember the childhood story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”?
In case it’s a bit fuzzy or you missed it, Goldilocks was this curious girl who wandered into the home of three bears looking for food, a comfy place to sit, and a cozy bed to sleep in.
The gist of the story is that she tried out different beds, chairs, and bowls of porridge until she found the ones that were just right for her—not too hard or soft, not too hot or cold!
How many times in your life have you looked for something that was “just right” like Goldilocks did?
This idea can apply to so many things—physical stuff, personal motivation, business success, the economy, and even marketing.
James Clear talks about this in his book “Atomic Habits”, especially when it comes to personal growth and motivation. He says finding the “just right” level of difficulty when working toward a goal is KEY. If a task is too easy or too hard, you might lose interest or get discouraged. You want the next step or goal to be challenging but doable to keep you motivated!
In business, the same idea works for helping employees grow. If you give someone tasks that are way too hard or too easy, they’re likely to feel frustrated or bored. If you overwhelm a person with expectations that are far beyond their scope or below their abilities, they will be set up for failure and frustration.
A good, effective leader knows how to set incremental, achievable steps for their team members. Encouraging and supporting their personal and professional goals and growth is critical for employee retention.
The economy works like this too. People need to feel confident to invest in the market or in their own business. Financial experts look at things like employment rates and economic forecasts to give good advice.
As life changes, try to find your “just right” in different situations.
