Rhea M. Haugseth, DMD

Rhea M. Haugseth, DMD maintained a private practice in Marietta, GA from 1982- 2017. She attended the University of Louisville Dental School and completed her pediatric residency at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital / Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is proud to be a Fellow the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Academy of Dentistry International.

Dr. Haugseth is a Past President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentists, and the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Haugseth has been a National Spokesperson for the AAPD since 1989 and has been frequently interviewed for radio, print, and national television.

Dr. Haugseth served on the American Society of Forensic Odontology Board of Directors 2001-2004. She is a Fellow and member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and an active member of the National DMORT Mass Disaster Team serving Region IV as a forensic dentist (odontologist).

Dr. Haugseth is also a member of the ADA, GDA, Northwestern District Dental Society, and the Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Haugseth is the Founder and Director of the Atlanta Pediatric Dental Assistant School in Atlanta Georgia. She is also the Founder and Director of the Pediatric Dental Team Association. She is committed to the pediatric dental team members and continues to develop ways to enhance their knowledge and skills both in and out of the dental office.

“Communication Skills: Tips, Techniques and Comedy”

Description:

This course examines many of the common concerns in communication in a pediatric dental office with examples, exercises and humor.

Key communication skills will be discussed, demonstrated, and developed with workshops. Techniques using verbal and non-verbal communications will be presented. Many times, these same techniques can be utilized to change the tones or attitudes in a potential communication conflict situation so that it does not escalate into a  “fire” causing a very negative situation in your practice.

Methods to assess and implement correct communication procedures as part of a risk management plan will be presented. Utilizing these methods can minimize malpractice claims due to communication conflicts and miscommunications.

Objectives:

  1. Understand and develop methods to address common communication concerns.
  2. Recognize the importance of knowledge and self-confidence in interactions with others.
  3. Develop key communication verbal skills
  4. Learn how to assess and improve their non-verbal communication skills

“Parents-Are Yours Backseat Drivers?” – Guiding Parental Behavior in the Pediatric Dental Office

Description:

Parenting has seen some major changes in the last decade. Parental behaviors influence their child’s behavior especially in the dental office. This course discusses methods of working with the parents of today in ways to garner the best outcomes for their children in the pediatric dental office.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the difference between behavior guidance and behavior management
  2. Understand the strategies and goals of behavior guidance
  3. Learn universal behavior guidance techniques and their utilization
  4. Utilize appropriate behavior guidance techniques based on patient’s age and developmental age
  5. Identify different parenting styles and how to work with them
  6. Learn ways to assist patients and their parents in achieving a positive dental experience

“Treatment Plan Presentations”

Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn how to present a treatment plan to gain the best acceptance.
  2. Attendees will learn how best to communicate the diagnosis and treatment choices
  3. Attendees will learn how to help parent decide on the best treatment option.
  4. Attendees will learn how to confirm with parent they made a wise decision in their choice of office and doctor for their child’s dental care.

“The Case for Having Fun in Your Practice”

Objectives:

  1. Attendees will learn various ways to engage your team in bonding activities and friendly competitions both in and out of the office environment.
  2. Attendees will learn some ways to prioritize fun in your practice.
  3. Attendees will discover different ways to bring fun into their social media posts and contests with patients and referral sources.
